What's Happening Now?

The most dramatic and recent update in the fight to legalize abortion is Arizona passing an effectively total abortion ban. This law was originally passed in 1864, before Arizona was even a state. It gives no allowance for an abortion unless the mother's life is in danger. This means that if someone became pregnant because of a rape, they would not be able to get an abortion. This drastically reduces bodily autonomy of women in Arizona, which is already a major problem in the United States. This law also allows doctors and anyone who performs an abortion to be prosecuted.
